GCU Attended the IACBE Asia-Europe Meeting in 2019

On October 10th to 11th, eight people including IACBE (international business education certification committee) vice president of Asia, Zeng Zhixin, executive vice principal of GCU, Li Huagang, vice vice principal of GCU, Lin Ying, vice vice principal of GCU, relevant person in charge of office of university , school of Management, school of Economics, school of International Business, International Education&Exchange Center, and IACBE office participated in 2019 in Lebanon IACBE Asia-Europe meeting.

The conference was mainly hosted by IACBE and hosted by Lebanon American University of Science & Technology, the Asia chair unit of IACBE. The meeting was themed on “Overcoming the classroom challenges of the millennials and generation Z for a Better and Appealing Approach”. Dr. Phyllis Okrepkie, president of IACBE, attended the meeting with about 30 representatives from IACBE's Asian and European member universities and industry organizations. The conference was presided by Dr. Robert Gharios, president of IACBE in Asia area.

At the meeting, the participants discussed the problems encountered in the classroom teaching practice of business and how to innovate teaching tools and means to improve the classroom teaching effect and improve the teaching quality through deeep communication in the form of theme reports.

Fang Fang, deputy director of the financial management department of the school of management, talked from the grand National Day military parade and celebration ceremony on October 1st , and took the ceremony analogy as classroom teaching. She said that teachers who are equivalent to the director of the ceremony should not only organize and design classroom teaching, but also mobilize and motivate students to participate in classroom teaching, give play to students’ dominant position in the classroom, and connect teachers and students with interesting classroom content. She also introduced in detail the classroom environment and teaching mode based on the concepts of teamwork, simulation and practical training in the economic management experimental center of our school.

Wang Jinpeng, director of the comprehensive teaching and research office of international business school, deeply analyzed the main problems in business education, students’ expectations for classroom teaching and solutions. He pointed out that the post-90s and post-00s generation have distinct personality and psychological characteristics. Students have passion for learning but have insufficient understanding of learning results, and traditional teaching methods are unable to meet students’ learning needs. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a student learning management system and use big data and other software as a teaching tool to increase students’ learning motivation. Then, he showed in detail how the learning management system of Management Information System course effectively manages and monitors students’ learning process.
Tang Yuping, deputy director of the international economics and trade department of the school of economics, made a deep analysis of the psychological characteristics and personality characteristics of contemporary college students. She said that to increase students’ interest in classroom teaching should start from both the inside and outside of the class. In the class, new examples, innovative teaching tools and simulation training links can effectively increase students’ interest in learning. Meanwhile, after class, economics BBS, academic competitions, cross-cultural communication and field visits can also arouse students’ enthusiasm for learning professional knowledge.
This is the first time for GCU to participate in the Asia-Europe meeting of IACBE as a full member of IACBE and the vice chairman unit of Asian region. The delegation led by our school covered all accredited business schools, which completely demonstrated our school’s achievements in business major and curriculum construction after IACBE certification. Meanwhile, the theme report made by the business teachers closely related to the theme of the conference, fully presented the real situation of business education in contemporary China, and the relevant content and views draw great attention and heated discussion among the delegates. The quality of the report was highly recognized by IACBE, the conference organizer and representatives of the participating universities.
At the closing ceremony of the conference, Dr. Robert Gharios, chairman of IACBE Asia, thanked our school for its support for this conference and announced that, with the resolution of IACBE Asia committee and the agreement of IACBE headquarters, our school will host IACBE Asia conference in October 2020 with the theme of “Application of Big Data in Business Education”. It will be the first time for our school to hold an international academic conference, which will help our school further publicize and promote the achievements of IACBE international certification, improve the school’s popularity and reputation at home and abroad, and further expand the space for international exchange and cooperation.
