Dear GCUTers and friends:

Time flies fast, and the new year is with us shortly. Upon the marvelous moment, we extend our best wishes to those who care and support GCUT’s development on behalf of GCUT’s board of directors and related leadership.

All GCUTers have made concerted efforts to shoulder heavy tasks while overcoming various difficulties guided by high-quality development and centered around the undergraduate education evaluation and assessment in 2024, through which it yielded fruitful results. They all went the extra mile, which should be recognized. Consequently, we should extend sincere gratitude to all staff and students from GCUT.

Only in hard times can courage and perseverance be manifested. 2024 reveals an uneasy but remarkable year.

It was in this year that we kept enhancing “one integration and two high-quality development” (deep integration between Party building and development of higher education, while high-quality Party building leads high-quality development of universities), through which Party building injects great impetus to our development. We have learned spirits of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the national education conference comprehensively under the guidance of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Moreover, we have implemented party discipline education campaign so as to take an active part in building a pattern of “Big Ideological and Political Education” and three all-round education, thus improving ideological and political leadership. Furthermore, “one integration and two high-quality development” was thoroughly implemented and “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” kept developing with quality. We also stood ready to work with “National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project” and “double-hundred action”, consequently, we were approved to establish “dual leadership” workshops of universities in Guangdong while related campaigns were also launched, which unleash the power of the guidance of high-quality Party building.

It was in this year that we overcame obstacles with determination to make a steady progress in the undergraduate education evaluation and assessment. Focusing on the undergraduate education evaluation and assessment, GCUT has enhanced the construction of teaching and learning styles through pursuing the goals of promoting development and reform based on standards of the evaluation centered around its indicator system, which can be shown in the “Ten Projects”. We strive to carry out the spirits of educator, which enables us to achieve new improvements in teaching quality and further emphasize the significance of teaching, achieving breakthroughs in the building of teaching resources as well as related services and support. Meanwhile, we kept strengthening to introduce and train quality talents, which can be seen in the outcomes of application-oriented teaching resources with orderly increasing of educational expenses. Moreover, new teaching buildings have been put into use, and scientific and technological innovation center as well as the new library are under construction. In this way, we keep improving our conditions of school running with achievements made during the preparation for the evaluation, which fully harnesses the strengths of the evaluation.

It was in this year that we focused on the full potential of higher education to enhance our capacities in school running. “Improvement Project of Teaching Quality” and “Standardized Project of Teaching Materials” were implemented comprehensively under the concerted efforts of our teachers. Such projects help to improve the guarantee system of teaching quality, standardize teaching management and strengthen teaching quality, and we were approved to establish provincial outstanding teacher workshops concerning aesthetic education as well as newly added provincial demonstration projects of curriculum-based virtuous and political awareness. A program of National Natural Science Foundation of China was concluded while government sponsored research such as Guangdong Philosophy and Social Science Foundation Special Projects and science and technology correspondents concerning issues related with rural area of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province were approved. We have also made breakthroughs in granted patents and patents, which reveals our achievements in mutual development of teaching and scientific research. Moreover, our enrollment cut-off point (students who choose physics or history as their exam category) remained the second among similar universities and colleges in 2024.

It was in this year that we advanced integration between industry and education in an innovative way and achieved fruitful results in talent cultivation. GCUT’s Institute of Jewelry Design passed provincial examination while the Institute of Green and Intelligent Transportation Industry was approved to be established, which enable us to shine and innovate regarding integration between industry and education through related courses provided in such institutes. Therefore, we built a community with shared opportunities of development with enterprises through joint contribution and research. Furthermore, our students outperformed in various competitions including China’s International College Students’ Innovation Competition, “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, Formula Student China and iCAN International Contest of Innovation. Moreover, we have promoted joint cultivation of postgraduates with South China University of Technology and a new batch of postgraduates under such program have received their diploma. We witness annual increase of promotion rate of graduate students while the employment rate of our graduates of the class of 2024 ranked among the best among provincial private universities and colleges. GCUT’s students outshine themselves with their outstanding performances.

Achievements of 2024 contributes to concerted efforts of GCUTers, who devote to GCUT’s development with its teachers focusing on their teaching with innovative spirits while its students keeping working hard to blaze a trail. Every effort deserves our great respect! Each GCUTer is admirable!

The future holds tremendous promise with spring approaching. The year of 2025 is of great importance that we will come to the decisive stage of the undergraduate education evaluation and assessment conducted by the Ministry of Education of the People’ s Republic of China. It is also the last year of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the key year to stimulate the 15th Five-Year Plan. Meanwhile, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of GCUT. With opportunities and challenges awaiting, Let us march toward new achievements and goals shouldering responsibility and confidence with great hopes and determination so as to write a new chapter of GCUT’s concerning “one integration and two high-quality development”, thus making more contributions to building Guangdong into a leading province in education, science and technology as well as quality workforce.
