The School of Jewelry of Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) organized its teachers from the Department of Gemology and Material Craftsmanship to attend the 7th Seminar on Textbook Building in Gem and Jewelry as well as the 2024 International Gems and Jewelry Academic Conference held at China University of Geosciences in Wuhan from October 26 to 27, which aims to improve their teaching quality and scientific research capabilities.

Several outstanding professional teachers from the department of jewelry were invited to share their views at the 7th Seminar on Textbook Building in Gem and Jewelry on October 26. Cai Yitao from Jinling Institute of Science and Technology delivered a speech based on his achievements in compiling the oral English textbook for jewelry concerning different scenarios while Liao Renqing from Shenzhen City Polytechnic expounded the development principles and practical experience of Gemstone Inclusions in detail. The two textbooks have provided valuable lessons for teachers and students from schools of Jewelry regarding their teaching and learning respectively.
A guest delivered a keynote speech
The 2024 International Gems and Jewelry Academic Conference was held on the next day, which focuses on “Green Development Provides New Opportunities for the Industry -- Sustainable Development and Innovation of the Gems and Jewelry Industry”. Various scholars and experts were invited to deliver keynote speeches. Jiang Nan, a researcher from Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences took a deep dive into the development of large-size chemical vapor deposition monocrystalline diamonds. Chen Quanli, a professor from the Gemological Institute of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), shared her insights into key non-destructive testing methods of processing porcelain-treated turquoise.
Serving as a grand academic event with great international influence, the conference reveals China’s achievements in gems and jewelry education. Top scholars from home and abroad introduced the latest development of the gems and jewelry industry, which broadens participants’ international view while providing new solutions and methods to gem and jewelry education. In this way, it greatly supports the reform and innovation of talent cultivation modes of gem and jewelry industry. Teachers from GCUT’s School of Jewelry pointed out that they had learned a lot from the conference, saying that they will keep exploring new models and approaches concerning education in the future with their goal being cultivating talents who master professional knowledge with virtues, thus making contributions to the prosperous development of China’s gem and jewelry industry.
