Society Work Office of Huadu District and the Communist Youth League of Huadu District Commission jointly held a competition to select role models of youth volunteer of Huadu District (2024 - 2025) in order to pay tribute to Lei Feng and learn from his spirits as well as guide youths in the district to foster and observe core socialist values while keeping promoting the prosperous development of youth volunteer programs in Huadu District. The winner lists were released on February 27, in which a program of School of Foreign Languages of Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) (namely, Volunteer Teaching of Aesthetic Courses in Xiaozhanjia, Jiutan Village) as well as four outstanding volunteers were included.

Volunteer teaching activities of Aesthetic Courses in Xiaozhanjia, Jiutan Village

Volunteer Teaching of Aesthetic Courses in Xiaozhanjia, Jiutan Village aims to provide related courses for kids of local or migrant workers’, injecting vitality for the growth of rural kids since its initiation in July, 2023. The program consists of free courses such as calligraphy, dancing, handicraft, martial arts, painting, public speaking and reading, bringing knowledge and happiness for kids at the age of 6 to 12. There have been 84 volunteers participated in the program up to December, 2024, benefiting people accumulating to be 1,276, whose examples were reported on platforms such as Huadu Media and Nanfang Plus. Moreover, their services were also recognized by the Working Committee of the Communist Youth League of Xiuquan Street and Jiutan Village.

Majoring in visual communication design, Xiao Lihong has won National Scholarship for two consecutive years as well as the titles of “Outstanding Staff of the Communist Youth League” and “Outstanding Student” in the university. She participated in various volunteer activities including blood donation, cleaning the campus, and freshmen reception. Moreover, she visited poor families to bring warmth and concern for people in need. She also took an active part in the publicity of intangible cultural heritage, goldwork embroidery, combining what she has learned with volunteer activities. While helping to boost public welfare with cultural inheritance, she also builds her character.

Chen Huihong helped freshman for registration

Chen Huihong was awarded as “Outstanding Staff of the Communist Youth League” and “Outstanding Student Cadre”, who majors in visual communication design. He plays an active role in various volunteer activities such as sports meeting, freshmen reception, graduation exhibition, concert and contest defense. He devotes to every volunteer activities from planning to implementation.

Lu Yongshi took part in the publicity of safety education

Majoring in electrical engineering and automation, Lu Yongshi won titles such as “Five-star Volunteer” “Outstanding Volunteer” and “Outstanding Staff of the Communist Youth League”, whose volunteer hours surpassed 2,000 hours. During the “Learn from Lei Feng Month” (every March), she actively participated in volunteer activities held in and outside the campus concerning the publicity of “electrical safety tips” and anti-fraud tips as well as a tree-planting activity. Furthermore, she devoted to social practices such as “returning to your hometown”, “bringing culture/ science and technology/ hygienic health to the countryside” and other activities including “sending 10,000 calligraphy of “fu” (meaning happiness in Chinese) to 10,000 families”, publicity of subsidy policies, safety education for kids and visiting the senior. Such experiences improve her organizational competence and teamwork spirits, but enable her to understand the significance of serving the society.

Zhang Zhaojia participated in the publicity of HIV/AIDS Prevention and narcotics control

Zhang Zhaojia was award “Outstanding Merit Student” “Outstanding Volunteer” and “Outstanding Communist Youth League Member”, who majors in marketing. She is always a part of different volunteer activities such as legal protection, visiting and helping the disable, publicity of HIV/AIDS prevention and narcotics control, blood donation and the building of a green and beautiful campus. When taking part in the publicity of anti-fraud tips, she explained to the residents with patience, which promotes the building of a harmonious, safe and model community. She will stay committed to her original aspirations in the future, shining her youth through devotion.

Upon the 62th “Learn from Lei Feng Day”, GCUT Youth League Committee will organize series of activities from March to April, namely, “Learn from Lei Feng Month: We are on the Way”, which honors Lei Feng’s spirit of helping others through various types of volunteer activities, encouraging more GCUT youths to take part in it. In this way, they can spread positivity with concrete actions while carrying on such good deeds and making it a lifestyle.
