To boost “Project of High Quality Development in Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns and Ten-Thousand Villages” of Guangdong province, students from Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) took an active part in the 18th “Challenge Cup” Guangdong Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition Final, which closed in Zhaoqing University on May 19. GCUT won 2 outstanding winners, 4 first prizes, 8 second prizes and 10 third prizes (including 2 prizes won in the special event). The number of outstanding winners and its overall achievements rank the first among similar provincial universities and colleges.

GCUT started the application of the 18th “Challenge Cup” Guangdong Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition in July, 2024. Through rigorous selection, GCUT recommended 22 works for main events and 21 works for Zhaoqing special event of “Project of High Quality Development in Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns and Ten-Thousand Villages”. Organized by GCUT Communist Youth League Committee, participants kept refining their projects while polishing their application materials and speeches in order to present the best performance during the preparation. Eventually, GCUT won 2 outstanding winners, 4 first prizes, 8 second prizes and 8 third prizes in main events , and 2 third prizes in Zhaoqing special event of “Project of High Quality Development in Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns and Ten-Thousand Villages”.

GCUT has always attached great importance to the cultivation of quality application-oriented talents with innovative spirits with “combining competitions with innovation” as an important approach to build a comprehensive path of cultivation through science and innovation. Liu Jianbo, Deputy Secretary of CPC Guangzhou City University of Technology Committee and Vice President of GCUT, were present to wish them good luck before the competition, encouraging them to handle the competition calmly. They indeed showed their vibrancy and passion during the competition.

It is introduced that the 18th “Challenge Cup” Guangdong Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition was co-hosted by the Communist Youth League Committee of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Association for Science and Technology, Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, and People’s Government of Zhaoqing Municipality, whose final was held in Zhaoqing University. Under the framework of the competition, Zhaoqing special event of “Project of High Quality Development in Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns and Ten-Thousand Villages” of the 18th “Challenge Cup” Guangdong Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition was also held to promote the implementation of “Project of High Quality Development in Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns and Ten-Thousand Villages”, guide college students to pay attention to needs of counties, towns and villages, as well as advance the matching between scientific research achievements and local industrial requirements. The competition attracted over 200,000 college students from 161 universities to participate in. It received around 36,000 science and technology works, 2,074 works of which were selected. There were 831 works advancing to the final.
