GCUTers won national second and third prizes in the 16th "Lan Qiao Cup" Contest of National Software and Information Technology Talents Final

The award list of the 16th “Lan Qiao Cup” Contest of National Software and Information Technology Talents Final was released on June 27. Nine students from the School of Computer Engineering and Big Data and the School of Electronics and Information Engineering & Telecommunication Engineering of Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) won 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes and 4 Honorable Mentions at the national level. Moreover, GCUT won 11 first prizes, 29 second prizes and 54 third prizes of the provincial contest of “Lan Qiao Cup”.

The 16th “Lan Qiao Cup” Contest of National Software and Information Technology Talents has attracted participants from about  2,000 Chinese universities and around 10 overseas universities. GCUT’s School of Computer Engineering and Big Data and School of Electronics and Information Engineering & Telecommunication Engineering attached great importance to the contest since they have played an active part in holding its on-campus selection competition since November, 2024 to prepare for the provincial and national contests of the 16th “Lan Qiao Cup”. Nearly 100 students were trained and selected. The provincial contest adopted on-site contests combined with contestants participating online. To create better environment for contestants, GCUT’s Computer Lab Center provided labs for them to prepare for the contest, helping them to lay a solid foundation for the national contest.

After the contest, Wei Li, a contestant winning the national second prize, who is from the ACM Experimental Class, for 2023 batch, shared his view: “It is overjoyed that I won the national second prize in the 16th ‘Lan Qiao Cup’ on the journey to algorithm competitions. It is not only a recognition of my efforts, but a new start of my future achievements. I will remain my passion and scale the heights of algorithm in the future.”

It is said that the “Lan Qiao Cup” Contest has been held for 16 times since 2010 with its participants excelling 1 million, which plays a significant role in promoting the development of the software industry and cultivating innovation-oriented software talents. It has been selected into the ranking list of disciplinary competitions for China’s national college students released by China Association of Higher Education for 6 consecutive years, becoming an important competition for universities’ educational and teaching reforms as well as the innovation of talent cultivation.
