Shanghai Ranking, a professional evaluation institution for higher education, officially released its 2025 Best Chinese Non-government Universities Ranking on April 15. Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) ranks the first among Guangdong’s private polytechnic universities and the second among Guangdong’s private universities. Moreover, it ranks the 12th in the Best Chinese Non-government Universities Ranking, moved up 21 places compared to that in 2024. GCUT has ranked the top among Guangdong’s private polytechnic universities for 5 consecutive years of such ranking.
Evaluation system of Shanghai Ranking’s Best Chinese Universities Ranking
Since the Best Chinese Universities Ranking first released its ranking in 2015, it has become an influential and authoritative leading brand of Chinese universities for its profession, objectivity and transparency, which won recognition not only in the field of higher education. It uses ten evaluation modules to assess universities, which can be divided into 37 dimensions with 104 indicators and 392 variables, serving as a multifaceted monitoring assessment of the school-running level of Chinese universities. Focusing on over 1,000 Chinese universities for bachelor degree, the Best Chinese Universities Ranking divides universities into comprehensive ones, 8 types of single-discipline ones, 4 types of non-government ones to appropriately mirror differences concerning their natures and types of universities while ensuring the fairness of the ranking. Therefore, universities will be ranked based on differentiated indicator systems accordingly.
