The abrupt outbreak of COVID-19 drew attention from all Chinese people.Teachers and students staying in Hubei province obsessed GCUers. The virus, though keeping us in distance, it cannot separate our caring for each other. On February 14, GCU decided to issue subsidies of 1,000 yuan each to every teacher and student currently staying in Hubei province, sharing its concern to them and endeavoring to overcome the difficulty together.

 “If winter comes, can spring be far behind? It is at the very moment thatwe need to adhere to GCU spirit of ‘having a strong sense of responsibility’. Faced with COVID-19, GCU is always your strong backbone and will join hands with you and people nationwide to defeat COVID-19 with solidarity and cooperation”. In A Letter to Teachers, Students and Staff of GCU Staying in Hunbei Province from Guangzhou College of South China University of Technology, GCU hoped that they could stay confident about defeating COVID-19 and shoulder their responsibility to stick to the epidemic prevention and control measures implemented by the local government while adhering to arrangements of GCU. With adopting scientific prevention and control and taking care of themselves, they show their concern for themselves as well others. Eventually, we can win the battle against COVID-19.

During the epidemic, GCU shows its concern and gives assistance to its teachers and students with measures such as requiring daily reports of their health conditions through the ways including telephone, QQ group and WeChat group.

To ease anxiety, panic and worries of its teachers and students, GCU established a group that offers psychological counseling on the epidemic on January 30, calling for every personnel in the group to take an active part in it and helping to provide psychological counseling services through online mailbox cooperating with GCU, schools and teachers during the fight against the epidemic.

Moreover, GCU has adjusted its teaching schedule of the second semester in the academic year 2019-2020 to ensure an orderly implementation of its teaching work whiling reducing the influence on teaching due to the epidemic. It organized its teachers and students to make full use of online teaching platforms and mobile terminals to carry out their online teaching and guidance on paper writing. Furthermore, it also released learning resources in category to benefit its teachers and students through the maximal utilization of the electronic resources of its library.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, all GCUers have shouldered their responsibilities to work in close collaboration to win the battle against the COVID-19. According to the leading group for COVID-19 prevention and control, GCU concentrates on the effective, orderly and effective implementation of epidemic prevention and control at present.
