GCU ranked the 5th in China regarding the GDI Application-oriented University Ranking List (2020)

On May 17, Guangzhou Daily Data and GDI Think Tank released the GDI Top 800 Application-oriented Universities (2020). Guangzhou College of South China University of Technology (GCU) ranked the 235th among national application-orienteduniversities and the 19th in Guangdong province according to the list.

GDI (Guangzhou Daily Data& Digital Institute) Application-oriented University Ranking List (2020) evaluated 910 undergraduate colleges and universitiesunder the same system, including public universities, independent colleges and private universities. Through a scientific evaluation of the application, academic, reputation and second-evaluation indexes, it gives birth to a comprehensive index. Accordingly, the ranking list is confirmed based on the comprehensive index, thus creating a new evaluation system of application-oriented universities. It is evaluated that GCU ranked the 5th among the Top 100 application-oriented universities (independent colleges), application and academic indexes of which ranked the 4th. It symbolizes that GCU has made new achievements in the level and quality of school running.

In the past 15 years, GCU hasstayed consistent with its orientation of school running, namely, building an application-oriented university of distinctive characteristics with quality. Moreover, it strives to carry out reforms in education and teaching while strengthening scientific research and innovation based on its school-running goal of “building an application-oriented university that is included in provincial first-class universities and national well-known ones” with its focus on cultivating application-oriented, compound, innovative and entrepreneurial talents. Furthermore, its talent cultivation and related activities including innovation and entrepreneurship, technical innovation, commercialization of achievements and industrial technologies are advanced based on its high-level industry-university-research-application platform while cooperating with famous enterprises such as GAC R&D Center, Dongfeng Nissan, Lanyou Technology and China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co. In this way, it improves its ability in scientific and technological innovation and serving regional industrial development. GCU was approved to the a pilot university of intellectual property right in Guangzhou in 2017 while its School of Intelligent Manufacturing Industry was approved as one of the demonstration industrial schools in Guangdong province in 2009. In the past five years, the number of applied patents totaled 1,308 while that of granted patents being 906, both of which continue to top among private universities in Guangdong province.
