GCUT held a lecture themed on "effective communications empower one's growth"

To deepen readers’ understanding and practical skills of effective communications, GCUT’s library and International Business School held a lecture themed on “effective communications empower one’s growth” in the Room 203 of the Teaching Building A5 on the evening of June 17, which was delivered by Hu Jingshan, deputy director of the Student Affairs Office of GCUT’s International Business School. Participants included Guo Peihong, GCUT’s Library Director, faculty of the Student Affairs Office of GCUT’s International Business School, and around 150 readers, who explored the values and arts of communication together.



 “No one can persuade another to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside.” Quote by Marilyn Ferguson, Hu expounded the implications and significance of communication through “an explication of written characters” and “demonstration with data”. She pointed out that the main parts of communications consist of people-to-people and organization-to-organization ones, whose essence lies on the passing and exchanges of “information, ideas and emotions”. Finally, it reaches the goal of “mutual understanding, coordination, and win-win cooperation”. Focusing on real-life experience such as campus life, working environments and parent-child relationship, she illustrated “how to make words count and contribute to effective communications” based on “7C principles, PAC transactional analysis, and nonverbal communication theories” in an easy-to-understand and intriguing way.



Present teachers and students pondered over real-life cases and shared their views during the interaction activity. In the end, Hu emphasized the values and path of “effective communications” to one’s growth from the perspectives of “nurturing one’s mind, enhancing problem-solving capacities, boosting individual development and devoting to a happy life”. A student shared that she was touched by the lecture, which enabled her to realize the importance of communications. Communications skills she learned from the lecture can be put into practice and help her to solve problems.



Finally, Guo Peihong issued a letter of appointment concerning “Tutor group of guiding by knowledge” to Hu Jingshan.

It is said that the series of lectures themed on “guiding by knowledge”, which is also a key activity of GCUT’s library. Focusing on “study and employment, information literacy, humanistic literacy and capacities to master AI tools”, the library has held 6 lectures so far, inviting lecturers that are popular among students. Such lectures and activities will be held on a regular basis, which help to boost the development of GCUT’s second classroom while enriching students’ campus life.
